Camping in Carlsbad

Our little $30 tent, that is perf for husb and me. Note the marshMELLO roasting device in the lower right hand corner. 99cents at the camp store! That fuzziness is a white feather, I found on the beach.

It was so hot in the sun, that I painted quickly. (And, I confess, I left out about 20 people, from my drawing! They were moving too much.)

Husb and I just got back from overnite camping in Carlsbad State Beach Park (about 45 minutes from our inland house). Our unglamorus campsite, above, is just 100 yards or so from this beautiful beach. We walked the beach, and sketched and just enjoyed the 75degree weather, thought it seemed warmer with the sun beating down!

just a page in sketchbook

Nothing too exciting. A little sketch of my view from Cafe Italia, in Little Italy, San Diego and a design for a mola-inspired art quilt. [I don't like the colors, so those will change.]

things in my kitchen

While waiting for the eggs to cook this morning, I drew these things in my kitchen. My fave red purse, (it's made in Paris, and only cost $20!) choc chip cookies, that my husb was baking for a potluck(which I really wanted to eat, but I'm starting a diet today to lose 5 lbs,) and BeBop's new mouse toys.

Mingei Museum

Visited the Mingei Museum in Escondido. I sat in the comfortable air-conditioned gallery and sketched this carved wooden statue. When I got home, I inked and added color.

clay church

More from the Mingei Museum. This was a charming clay sculpture, about 3 feet high. I'd love to make one...

another Tree of Life

I'm obsessed with the Tree of Life image (you can see many of my Tree of Life watercolor paintings on a page of my website.) I like how this is coming along, but it's not finished. I can't decide wheter to color the tree, or fill it with handwriting. hmm. Stay tuned.

Art Quilt class

Some of the fabulous fabric houses my recent art quilt class created! I'm teaching another Art Quilt class, in Oceanside, starting Friday, Sept 8.

Museum visit

Husb and I spend a nice afternoon at Balboa Park. Saw the Panama Mola exhibit at the Museum of Man, watched a street performer juggle plungers.

Still very sad about Cool Baby. Thanks for all the condolences and caring messages...

Very sad news about our kitty, Cool Baby

Our sweet Cool Baby is gone. She died yesterday of congestive heart failure. She was only 10 years old, and she was the best little girl. We miss her very very much.

Just Because

Inspired by Robin N's abstracts, I decided to just play with shape and color.

my sewing machine

Thought I was going to do a quick sketch of something easy, but this sewing machine perspective wasn't easy!

Bernardo Winery SketchCrawl

View of a tiny shop, tucked in the trees. A group of 8 of us sketched all day at this charming 100+ year old winery. oops! forgot to taste the wine!

Bernardo Winery

From our day at Bernardo Winery with San Diego sketchcrawl group. I'm trying to get over my fear of architecture. I'm actually pretty pleased with this. I'd worried the doors would face one way and the purple awnings the other way!

Sweet Cool Baby

A page from my watercolor moleskine, with the same drawing I used in the quilt, and a tiny drawing of Cool Baby when she was a kitten. She's home and feeling soooo much better.

cool baby quilt

This small quilt is just 4x6 inches. It's an painted technique I teach in my art quilt class. My heart is with Cool Baby this week.

phew.

Cool Baby, our 10 year old kitty, was very, very sick last night. We took her to urgent care at 2:30am. This morning, the vet said she was "a hundred times better," and will come home this afternoon.

Crepe Myrtle, part 2

It's finally cooled down enough to sit outside and sketch the crepe myrtle tree. I was wearing a red shirt, and as I sketched a tiny, tiny hummingbird came within 12 inches to check me out. I love listening to the sounds of the birds. Squeaks, chirps, whistles & peeps!
