Come sketching and watercoloring with me! We'll explore Charleston, South Carolina.

April 3-7, 2017
CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA
SKETCHING & WATERCOLOR: ON LOCATION

a destination retreat…
Our Muse: Charleston, South Carolina

The most glorious time of year in Charleston: Spring… with gardens bursting with color! The oldest city in South Carolina, Charleston has a rich heritage as well as vibrant arts and cultural scene. Long and winding cobblestone streets, elegant well preserved mansions; century old churches; art galleries and charming boutiques. A culinary mecca for Southern food done right too and just minutes away from the cosmopolitan charms of downtown Charleston are well preserved plantations and more beautiful gardens where you’ll loose yourself in time among the moss-covered oaks and blooming azaleas. The pages of your journals awash with color, architecture and beautiful gardens a treasure to cherish for years to come!

Charleston, South Carolina has been voted the No. 1 City in the World and No. 1 City in the U.S. and Canada in the Travel + Leisure 2016 World's Best Awards!

Sketching & Watercolor on Location:
Want to learn to draw and paint what you see? Want to create an illustrated journal page of your day, your garden, and your travels? Your days will be spent drawing and painting in a relaxed, fun environment with a group of like-minded travelers. Each day, we’ll go to a charming locale and I will demonstrate drawing and painting with watercolor. She’ll gently guide beginners (yes, I can teach you to draw) and experienced alike to see and capture the details and memories in a straightforward, intuitive approach with pen and watercolor. from my sketchbook: Bishops Ranch

the cover ~ by Jane LaFazio
I showed you some of my sketchbook from Bishops Ranch in this blog post, with a promise for more.
The cover, above is from a cereal box (like I teach in my online workshop "Cereal Box Journal.")
I created the inside pages of the book from hot press watercolor paper.

This page, below, was a series of drawings, as inspiration for a stamp design, and then some ideas for small stamps.

Obviously, I could go back in and finish some of the pages, adding more journaling or photos...and maybe I'll get around to that. But for now, this remains a fine record of my time at Bishops Ranch, in Northern California.

A little video of Taos, New Mexico

Last month,  I took my husband to Taos, New Mexico. He had never been, and I wanted to show him the magical place. We stayed at Mabel Dodgle Luhan Inn, where I hold my annual LavenderSage Art Retreat. And we visit Abiquiu and the home of Georgia O'Keeffe. We had a great trip!

Here's a link to the VIDEO.

I created the book, below, from my sketchbook drawings and the brochure from the fabulous exhibition of Mabel Dodge Luhan at the Harwood Art Museum in Taos. I'll show you the inside of my sketchbook soon.

I finished this a while ago, and hadn't shown it to you. I just used a variety of felt colors and spontaneously created these succulents with embroider thread and a bit of yarn. The hot glued them to a wreath from the craft store.

Speaking of wreaths, check out this one I made a while ago.
